Imperial Austria
(c) Imperial Austria
When the last Habsburg Emperor renounced his throne in November 1918, the reign of a dynasty that had influenced the history of Europe for more than half a millennium had come to an end. The Habsburgs had ruled the patrimonial Austrian lands as well as, temporarily, Spain, Burgundy, Belgium, the Netherlands, parts of Italy, as well as Hungary, Bohemia, and Moravia.
The numerous buildings & residences in and around the centre of former imperial power in Vienna are a special treat for you to visit - the Hofburg Castle with the imperial apartments, the Schönbrunn Palace & Park also a renowned world cultural heritage, the Schönbrunn Animal Park which is the oldest zoo in the world and since September 2007 also home to the first Panda baby born in Europe which was also naturally conceived, and the Imperial Festival Palace Hof with historical terrace gardens.

The Vienna Hofburg was not only the centre of the Habsburg empire for over 600 years but also the main residence of the imperial family.
