Trains are an ideal way to travel between Austria’s cities and towns. Comfortable trains provide frequent service on an extensive rail network which links the country with all of Europe.
Most trains – with the exception of some local and branch lines – carry first and second class cars.
In the daytime, trains operate at least every hour between Vienna and Salzburg, every two hours between Vienna and Innsbruck, Graz or Villach.
Most daytime express trains have a dining car or a mobile service with snacks and drinks, nighttime express trains have sleeping cars or couchettes.
