Austria, the land of tourism, has a high quality hotel trade in all categories. The classification of the hotels (1* - 5*) is subjected to strict regular controls: (Information: www.hotelsterne.at)
***** Luxury:
Exclusive, deluxe apartment featuring only fine and elegant materials in perfect blend with the entire surroundings. Characterized by great architecture, stylish furnishings, unique ambiance, excellent service, many extras – ideal for guests accustomed to international luxury hotels. Only a few hotels can reach this premium category. Compared to 4-star category: much more luxurious, corporate design and ambiance, first-class equipment and furnishings, premium service providers, extremely high level of personal service. All rooms are outstandingly spacious, most of them have a separate bedroom and living room area (suites).
**** First Class:
First class accommodation providers featuring first class equipment and furnishings: large rooms with all modern amenities plus sound-absorbing facilities. Most of the hotels are specialized in holiday programs and activities (e.g. wellness, sports, culinary delights, seminar and congress facilities). High level of service. Compared to 3-star category: larger rooms, high-quality furnishings, perfect surroundings thanks to a very high level of maintenance.
*** Premium Standard:
Hotels, inns, guesthouses, B&Bs presenting a distinguished, corporate design plus a homey ambiance. Comfortably equipped rooms with en-suite facilities (bathtub/shower, food, beverages, etc.) provide a very special sense of well-being, as well as a wide range of services (welcome/reception desk, snacks, beverages, etc.). Compared to 3-star category: tasteful raw materials, spacious rooms, separate sitting area (sitting unit, writing desk) in the room, common room available in most cases. Compared to 4-star category: smaller in size, furnishings could be a bit older than usual but offer a good level of maintenance.
** Standard:
Functional furnishings, comfortably equipped rooms at inexpensive rates plus a small range of extra facilities (TV, beverages, etc.) for price-conscious guests. Compared to 1-star category: comfortable rooms featuring color TVs and bathroom units. Compared to 3-star category: the furnishing's quality depends on the functionality and cleanliness while the furnishing's materials may be less considered. Guests enjoy a small range of additional services by taking advantage of the low prices.
* Tourist:
Basic equipment featuring al necessary amenities for a standard holiday. Accommodations focus on cleanliness and homey furnishings at a good level of maintenance. Ideal for very price-conscious guests who prefer basic lodging facilities at low rates.
There are also a large number of private rooms and farmhouse accommodations for rent.

Reservations:
For the peak tourist seasons (especially July, August, Christmas and Easter) booking in advance is highly advisable. Room reservations are binding for the hotel management as well as for the guest or travel agency. Compensation may be claimed if reserved rooms are not occupied.
In hotels and inns, a service charge of 10 % to 15% of the consumption is included in the amount invoiced. It is usual, if satisfied with the service, to pay a tip of 5 % to 10 % of the amount invoiced as well.
Hotel keepers are entitled to charge an extra fee for local and long-distance calls.
Electricity:
220 V alternating current. Connector plug/outlet correspond generally to the Euro-norm, but as a precaution one should still bring along an adaptor.
