Upper Austrian 'Landesausstellung 2008'

The castle called Schloss Ort in Gmunden provides a comprehensive overview on the basis of three major factors that influenced the Salzkammergut - history of salt mining, tourism and art. The objects and topics of the overview exhibition are selected in a way that allows visitors to establish a connection to the 13 local venues.
Some of the topics in detail:
The so-called Ceramics Trail connects Schloss Ort with Gmunden: The 1.2-km trail to the town museum at Kammerhof features floor display cases, a ceramic maze, a ceramic playground and floating sculptures.
Laakirchen’s paper making and printing museum, housed in the former Steyrermühl paper mill, allows you to experience the world of paper, work, environment and industrialisation.
Ohlsdorf is all about Thomas Bernhard. There’s a loop trail that has 11 signposts along its length where you can read significant quotes from his work. Visitors are provided with headsets to listen to texts by Bernhard and other authors.
‘Eggerhaus’ in Altmünster and ‘Viechtauer Heimathaus’ in Neukirchen provide visitors with information about the humble circumstances and working environments of local wood carvers, chipwood box makers, wood turners, locksmiths and housewares manufacturers . The family-friendly themed trails ‘Viechtau and Its People’ and ‘Life at Lake Traunsee. Then and Now’ have signposts containing information about the area’s special features and people’s life and work in the course of time.
The exhibition in Traunkirchen’s former monastery provides information about culture and religiousness between the Neolithic and modern periods.
The focus of the Landesausstellung in St. Wolfgang is on fine arts, film, literature and music, or, more precisely, on the life and work of artists inspired by Lake Wolfgangsee. A kind of ‘walkable’ book is dedicated to literature. A separate focus of the St. Wolfgang exhibition is on the town’s most famous house, Weisses Rössl. The program is complemented by a variety of tourist attractions: The pilgrimage church, several paths through town, and a nostalgic train ride to Schafberg mountain will be additional highlights of your visit to the Landesausstellung.
The ‘Mozarthaus’ is St.Gilgen tells the story of Nannerl Mozart, a musician whose life was overshadowed by her famous brother. Original music pieces, commented slide shows, and video/film sequences do justice to Nannerl Mozart.
The exhibition at Schloss Wildenstein in Bad Goisern deals with crafts, traditions and folk culture. Everthing’s about regional craftspeople such as violin makers, woodcutters, blacksmiths and shoemakers. Their products, e. g. the Goiserer shoe, are famous beyond the borders of the Salzkammergut. Additionally, there is a room for children where they have the opportunity to try out crafting techniques.
The exhibition in Gosau provides information about geology and biology. The ‘Paarhof’ open-air museum and the ‘Jagerbauerstadel’ give insight into the processes of orogeny and the ongoing changes in the alpine landscape. The eight signposts in the family park allow visitors to explore the formation of the earth in a playful way.
The exhibition in Hallstatt provides everything for families and people interested in culture. Attractions include the new panoramic lift in the so-called Hochtal (‘high valley’) in Hallstatt, the Global Heritage Trail and the Global Heritage Museum where you can make a virtual journey from Dachstein mountain to the floor of Lake Hallstättersee by means of multimedia.
In addition to the special exhibitions, the Landesausstellung offers a variety of events: wood turners at work at ‘Altmünster Heimathaus’, cultural walks at Lake Traunsee, an international meeting of master craftspeople from EU neighbour countries at ‘Schloss Neuwildenstein’, a pottery market and master classes for strings in Bad Goisern, a castle and garden party at the ‘Kaiservilla’ in Bad Ischl, events for women in Ebensee, live cooking and Fairy Tale Days in Gmunden as well as various readings and concerts.
