Salzburg

Salzburg Province fosters both rural and sophisticated culinary traditions, and they create an intriguing contrast.

With its innumerable alpine pastures, the province produces exquisite cheeses. You can buy these and other agricultural produce directly at the farms. The traditional recipes of the Salzburg countryside include home-cured pork, cranberry noodles and baked apple slices, best rounded off with a farm-distilled fruit brandy. Salzburg also boasts a number of small but very fine breweries.

The brook trout which live in Fuschlsee are a delicacy not to be missed on any account. The palace fisherman in Hof on the lake’s western shore invites visitors to watch the curing of the fish in the pergola beside the lake water.

Salzburg City matches its beauty and cultural sophistication with a cuisine of equal splendour. You will find meals to meet any taste – from haute cuisine to snacks and from leisurely coffee houses to the traditional ambience of the typical city restaurant – all waiting to be enjoyed beneath ancient vaults.
