Special Exhibition: "Soccer"

Datum: 21.05.2008 - 30.11.2008
Ort: Dachstein Eispalast , Steiermark
With the UEFA EURO 2008™ soccer tournaments just around the corner everybody is jumping on the soccer train and there are indeed some very creative events among the many happenings taking place during the championships. One of them is being staged on Dachstein Glacier, accessible from Schladming in Styria.
Last year some 70,000 visited the Ice Palace. This year Dachstein boasts a new attraction for visitors: during the UEFA EURO 2008™ year there will be a special Soccer exhibition on the glacier featuring history’s funniest and most legendary soccer scenes.
Zinedine Zidane headbutting Materazzi, Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal (1986 world championships) or Hans Krankl’s decisive goal in Cordoba 1978 are all part of the exhibition. Also on view is a bust of Austria’s "Schneckerl" Herbert Prohaska who went down in Austrian soccer history with his “kick of Izmir”. Another highlight is a soccer goal hewn into the glacier ice plus a 150kg football also made from ice. The Ice Palace’s old attractions such as Throne Hall, Crystal Dome and Gate to Acropolis will all be open as well. The Dachstein Ice Palace is a unique attraction that allows visitors to experience the fascination of the eternal ice up close.
The special Soccer exhibition in Dachstein’s Ice Palace opens on Wednesday, 21st May 2008.
Starting point for a visit to the special exhibition is Dachstein gondola, accessible from Schladming / Ramsau am Dachstein.
