The Golden Century of Art 1908-2008

Datum: 24.04.2008 - 05.01.2009
Ort: Österr.Werkstätten , Wien
The most important representatives of this "golden century" in art were artists like Gustav Klimt, Kolo Moser and Josef Hoffmann.
Gustav Klimt’s "The Kiss", the 1908 Art Show and Wiener Werkstätte, a group of artisans and artists, are three of the exhibition’s central themes. Contemporary photographers pay a photo homage to the world-famous painting “The Kiss”.
Scandals around Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, the development of Wiener Werkstätte and Österreichischer Werkbund, an association of Austrian architects, designers and industrialists, and the formal language of Walter Bosse are the main themes of the second room.

The third room features sound files and documentaries showing the impacts and implications of WW II in Vienna, and Josef Hoffmann’s attempts in 1948 to revive artistic craftwork. The next room shows contemporary art.
