Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park

The Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park is a bird lovers’ paradise and provides habitat to the great white heron, heron, white stork, graylag goose, great bustard, pied avocet etc. More than 300 different bird species, including herons, graylag goose, porchard, squacco heron and several songbirds (bearded readling, reed bunting, reed warbler), nest within a 180sq km reed belt. The Seewinkel’s salty ponds are the most important breeding places of duck and goose species, waders and seagulls. In the spring and fall the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel national park also serves as important stopover for migratory birds.
The Neusiedler See - Seewinkel was founded in 1993 and – together with the Hungarian Fertö-Hanság Nemzeti Park – is Austria’s first cross-border national park. On the Austrian side the national park comprises seven towns: Andau, Apetlon, Illmitz, Neusiedl/See, Podersdorf, Tadten und Weiden/See.
