Wiener Prater

With over 250 attractions the Prater attracts millions of visitors each year. The Wurstelprater boats a nostalgic grotto train, a creepy ghost train, bumper cars, carrousels, mirror cabinets, shooting galleries, rip-roaring roller coasters and much more to keep young and old entertained.
The park’s most outstanding feature is the Giant Ferris Wheel, one of Vienna's most famous landmarks. With a total height of 64.75 meters and a wheel diameter of 60.96 the Ferries Wheel’s silhouette can be seen from afar, and holds a special attraction for locals and visitors alike.
In 1897, on the occasion of Emperor Franz Josef II's 50th anniversary of accession to the throne, the English engineers Walter Basset and H. Hitchins built this gigantic wheel. The original number of wagons was reduced from 30 to 15 in 1945.
A ride in the Ferries Wheel provides fantastic views of the city and makes for a great cultural and architectural experience. Since 1987 cabin No. 30 serves as a luxury cabin which can be rented for special occasion, be it a press conference or a romantic wedding dinner for two.
Other landmark besides the Ferries Wheel are the Watschenmann (a test-your-strength statue) and Calafati, a 9-meter tall Chinese man.
Another must is a visit to the Schweizerhaus. This restaurant with its huge beer garden is famous for its pig's trotters and freshly drawn beer.
Der Wurstelprater is only a small part of the Prater, a huge park with woods and meadows which once served as hunting grounds for Emperor Joseph II. Today the Prater is Vienna's greenbelt recreation area.
