Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien

When the Museum on Ringstrasse was ceremoniously opened in 1891, it was the first time that the majority of the imperial collections were united under one roof. The monumental building itself was designed as testimonial to Habsburg patronage. The museum was built according to designs by Gottfried Semper (1803 - 1879) and Karl von Hasenauer (1833 - 1894); their design is influenced by Italian Renaissance to refer to an epoch of great importance for art and science.
