A Spaceship in Graz

With its organic shape and skin made of shimmering blue acrylic panels, the new Art House, designed by the London-based architectural team of Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, reminds of a spaceship– hence the nickname “Friendly Alien”. The people of Graz have immediately taken to this hi-tech building and consider it their new landmark. And the “contender”, the Clock Tower? Not jealous at all. It has seen other things in its time: a ruler named Napoleon, a world war and all kinds of modern events and happenings. And it’s exactly this mix of tradition and modernism that makes Graz so special.
