White Wine in a Black Box

Here the focus is not only on Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, but also on monolithic, black rectangles. The matt black, minimalist box that the winery is, stands sentinel over the rustic and bucolic Langenlois farmhouses. Loimer’s architecturally daring wine cellars, which in the beginning were met with great resentment by the neighbors, was honored with the “Austrian Builder-Owner Prize”. When this out-of-the-ordinary building started to attract visitors from near and far, the people of Langenlois showed themselves to be educable. Those who overcame their inhibitions and entered the black edifice were surprised by the interior’s appealing and engaging ambiance. Centerpiece is an eight meter long, black table which serves as show stage for top quality wines. The interior opens onto a sunny courtyard via a folding glass wall. The smooth, black surface of the façade is only interrupted by one window affording views of Heiligenstein, the Kamptal’s largest vineyard.
