Nordico Museums – Museum of the City of Linz
The Nordico – Museum of the City of Linz is housed in a former chapter of the Kremsmünster Monastery (built in 1608-09). This facility opened in 1973 and is being completely renovated in 2007-08. The building has a rich history as a Jesuit boarding school for boys from Denmark, Norway and Sweden. After the school was dissolved by Kaiser Joseph II, it served as an apartment building until the 1950s—among its residents was the mother of Marianne Willemer, Goethe’s Suleika. Here, the first artists’ guild, the "Oberösterreichische Kunstverein", was founded in 1851.
The Nordico is a research facility and exhibition venue for regional art, photography, and the history and archeology of the City of Linz.

LinzGenesis is a new and different type of museum based on a very interesting concept. The content as well as the materials on exhibit concentrate on a few key themes. This allows the visitor to absorb the most important aspects of Linz during a short visit. This is urban history screened in time-lapse instant replay and enhanced with audiovisual effects, a fast, fascinating and informative passage through the centuries. Admission is free of charge!
