Nature Parks in Vienna

Tree of Life Circle “Am Himmel”
Since the end of the 18th century the “Am Himmel” (In Heaven) recreational area in Grinzing has been a popular outing destination of the Viennese. In 1997 the Forest Board of Trustees created the Tree of Lice Circle at Am Himmel to express the relationship between men and tree. The Tree of Life Circle contains 40 trees of over 20 different species. In front of every tree there is a small column, equipped with speakers. If you stand in front of the tree, it will start “talking” about itself. On weekends the speakers play classical music. In addition, each birth date was assigned a specific life tree.

Lobau
The Lobau is a pristine floodplain in the east of Vienna and forms part of the Donau-Auen national park. Tributaries of the Danube, ponds, wide meadows, dense forests, rare flowers, trees, fishes, insects and birds can be found in Vienna’s "jungle". Join a free guided expedition into this nature paradise – either on foot or by bike. Between May and October national park boats leave from “Kleine Donau” (small Danube) on the edge of the old town and take you into the heart of this primeval forest.
