Car Rental

Rental cars can be rented at all airports, major railway stations and in cities (Budget, AVIS, Europcar-Interrent, Hertz among other rental firms). Furthermore, international car rental agencies have reservation offices in all countries, from which tourists can make reservations out of their own country at special rates.

Requirements:
As a rule, before renting, the driver must have had a driving license (that is valid for Austria) for at least one year. For several groups of vehicles a minimum age of 21 to 25 years is a prerequisite.

Please note: toll stickers are required on all vehicles on Austria's motorways and highways!

Special Regulation for Rental Cars out of Switzerland:
Persons with residence in the EU can use a vehicle rented in Switzerland (by means of a written contract) to travel into Austria for a duration of 8 days from the enforcement of the rental contract in the entire toll region of the European Union for private or professional (however not for commercial) purposes.

Entry:
The vehicle can be imported without any formalities by passing through the customs border at a customs office.

Rental contract:
The rental contract must be brought along and presented to the customs officer upon request.

Deadline:
The vehicle must be exported or returned to a rental car service in the EU customs region before the deadline of the rental contract.
