Parking

The parking time in limited parking zones ("blue zones") can variate between 30 minutes to 3 hours and is indicated at the beginning of the particular zone. Corresponding traffic signs are not necessarily repeated at each intersection.


Limited parking zones free of charge:
Parking clocks (available in tobacconists' shops – 'Tabak Trafik') are needed.

Zones subject to charge:
In some cities (e.g Vienna) a parking voucher (available at gas stations and in tobacconists' shops, among others) must be filled out, in some cities parking meters are operated.
In Vienna, the districts 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 20 as well as parts of the 2nd and 3rd district are limited parking zones, even without being specifically marked as such.

Validity of duration: Monday to Friday
1st district: 9.00 am - 19.00 pm; max. parking time: 1.5 hours
other districts: 9.00 am - 20.00 pm; max. parking time : 2 hours

Parking in Vienna

Some Austrian towns (e.g. Vienna, Tulln, Krems, Bludenz) now offer a mobile phone parking payment system, allowing motorists to pay for parking simply by pushing buttons on their mobile phones. Please note that the rules for the use of m-parking vouchers differ from town to town!
