Souvenirs with a Difference

Crystal Art by Swarovski
It all started with crystal animals. Today Swarovski’s collection includes everything from exclusive jewelry to crystal-embroidered handbags and belts. Swarovski crystal was born at the end of the 19th century when Daniel Swarovski invented an automatic cutting machine and thus the possibility to cut crystals. Until well after the Second World War, Swarovski was producing mainly optical glasses and instruments. The success story of the Swarovski brand begins in 1976 with a tiny crystal mouse, which is soon followed by other animal figurines. Today Swarovski is the leading manufacturer of cut crystal and sets the standard in crystal design.

Wine per Bottle Post
In 2002 the post office shut was down for good in Herrnbaumgarten in Lower Austria. At the same time a group of local winegrowers, shop owners and hoteliers joined forces. Holiday greetings, souvenirs, congratulation messages, and the like can be sent not IN the bottle, but ON the bottle. Customers can choose from a wide range of top quality wines (everything is available from Burgundy to Zweigelt) and custom-made cards which are then pasted on the bottles, packed in cardboard boxes labeled “Bottle Post” and sent to all four corners of the world.

Stinatz Easter Eggs
These uniquely decorated eggs always make for a very special gift. There are only few women left who still master these traditional crafting skills. The eggs are first dyed and then, after the color has dried, a design is etched in by scratching through the color with a purpose-made knife. Besides the old ornamentations, which have been handed down from generation to generation, the women of Stinatz meanwhile also do costume-made etchings including company logos, names, messages, etc.

Mozart’s Travel Cake
W.A. Mozart had a real sweet tooth and his most favorite dish was a cake which he used to pack up in a small wooden crate and carry along on his journeys. A few years ago the recipe of “Mozart’s Travel Cake” was rediscovered and has meanwhile developed into a popular souvenir from the Wolfgangsee region. This delicious chocolate & nut cake is draped in rich marzipan before being covered with smooth milk chocolate. Although the cake is made using only natural ingredients and no additives or preservatives whatsoever, it stays moist, fresh and soft for up to 6 weeks.

Tirolean Shale Oil
This top quality oil has been produced in Pertisau for over 100 years, and is popular for its nourishing and healing properties. Shale oil comes from oil shale, which first discovered in this region in 1902, and is still mined today at 1500m below ground. The rock is heated to approximately 900 degrees F. By this process the organic material is converted into a liquid,
which is further processed to produce shale oil. This specially formulated oil serves as basis for a variety of products including skin and hair care products, muscles rubs, massage oils, soaps, shower gels, shampoos and heat packs. The organic material of shale oil is kerogen, derived from myriad organisms, chiefly plants.

Cuddly Sheep from Osttirol
They not only look cute, they also feel good. These wonderful, snuggly friends are stuffed with cherry stones that can be heated in the microwave or oven and used as a therapeutic hot pad, or alternatively, placed it in the freezer to create an extremely effective cold compress. The heat-retaining cherry stones give out a long-lasting penetrating warmth as the pillow moulds itself to the body. Neck tension, stomach cramps, backache, headache, and cold feet all melt away in the fragranced glow.
