Styrian Joanneum Provincial Museum

The Joanneum thanks its existence to the archduke Johann Baptist of Austria. In the year 1811 he founded this "sensualization" of nature and art and thereby created not just a museum.
Over the course of its approximately 190 years, the Joanneum was basis for innumerous institutions such as the Montan University in Leoben and the Technical College in Graz – today the Archduke-Johann-University.
The collections on nature, culture and art are divided into 16 presentations and are complemented scientifically. Besides seven exhibition rooms in Graz, both the Stainz and Trautenfels palaces harbour parts of the Joanneum. The alpine garden Rannach serves as outpost of the "Botanical" presentation.
