The Sound of Music - 24/7

Salzburg may be home to Mozart and all things baroque, but for an astounding 70% of overseas visitors The Sound of Music remains the primary reason for travel to the city.
In acknowledgement of this, many of Salzburg's 300,000 annual visitors may soon be able to check into their hotel and be watching The Sound of Music faster than you can say do-re-mi. This comes thanks to a recent initiative by the Austrian Hotel Association which is currently working towards having the channel implemented at smaller hotels and inns not yet equippped with the service.
Perhaps somewhat surprising is that many Austrians have not even seen the film and don't fully realise the enormous impact the film still holds today in the UK and North America. In Salzburg however, the word is out as nearly all city tour companies offer Sound of Music themed tours and at select times of the year visitors can even attend a Sound of Music dinner show. Plans for a Sound of Music museum are also in the works with the Nonnberg Monastry (featured in the film) being proposed as a possible venue.
As for The Sound of Music television channel - what could be more satisfying than touring the famed sights of Salzburg and then relaxing with your feet up watching one of the most beloved films of all time while thinking 'been there, done that'?
