Glacier skiing - and a few reasons why!
Dachstein Glacier – new this year is a spectacular visitor attraction at 2,700m above sea level. The Dachstein Sky Walk is a viewing platform that juts out from a 250m vertical rock face into pure 360-degree mountain scenery. Nicknamed ‘the balcony of the alps,’ its partially glass-constructed floor can accommodate 150 guests who have easy access via the Dachstein cable car from Ramsau. www.ramsau.com
Molltaler Glacier – take a trip on the longest underground funicular in the world and hit the slopes at the highest ski area in Carinthia at over 3000m. Stubai Glacier – Austria’s largest glacier ski resort, with a network of 25 high-speed lifts, opens its new bottom terminal, ‘Mutterberg’, at the beginning of October. Within, is the new Intersport Comfort Centre, Austria’s largest self-service ski and shoe depot, with space for 1,500 pairs of skis and 1,200 pairs of boots. www.stubaier-gletscher.com

Kitzsteinhorn Glacier – a new 6-seater chairlift, The Kristalbahn, opens November 2007, capable of transporting 2,600 guests an hour from the Alpine Centre into the glacial region. The new lift, with heated seats and weather proof hoods, replaces the Krefelder Hut lift and also enables new slopes to be opened. www.kitzsteinhorn.at
