Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, Linz and many other cities and regions offer discounted cards with attractive value-added opportunities. You can explore the splendor and cultural delights of the cities with significant discounts on public transport, sightseeing, shopping, dining, etc. Up to the age of 6, children travel for free in public transportation. In many Austrian cities up to 4 children up to the age of 15 travel for free with their accompaniment. If you are traveling with kids generally ask for special reductions!

Because of Austria’s long tradition many folklore festivals take place throughout the year - particularly outside the cities - at which Austrian culture and lifestyle can be experienced first hand … and for free. Visit the city’s or region’s website for their event guides.
The free Hiking Program in Innsbruck (June – October) should be as famous as the Alps themselves. Mountain tours with certified mountain guides from the Alpine School in Innsbruck (ASI) are offered for free and include Hiking bus, Tour book, Rented equipment (hiking boots, rucksack). Vienna Music Film Festival in front of Vienna’s City Hall (July 12 - Sept 7, 2008) begins at dawn and entrance is free.
Festival on the Danube Island in Vienna (Sept 5 - 7, 2008) is Europe's biggest party for young people. For three days a great line-up of stars will entertain the more than two million party-goers on about 20 stages. A detailed program will be published in August 2008.
La Strada in Graz (August 1-9, 2008) is a free art festival on Graz’ charming streets. „Aufsteirern“ Event in Graz (Sept 14, 2008). For one day, the Old Town of Graz turns into a rural Styrian village. Join the villagers on an exciting "journey" through their province and get acquainted with the great diversity of Styrian customs and traditions. Jazzkonzerte am Mariahilferplatz im Sommer „Murszene“.
Jazz Summer Graz (July 10 – Aug 2, 2008) takes place in the extraordinary atmosphere of the "casemates" on the Schlossberg in Graz. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in July and August will see performances by legendary jazz stars. Superb ambiance, great music and culinary pleasures, what more can you ask for on a warm summer night?
Siemens Festival Nights is a special treat for classical music lovers. During the world-renowned Salzburg Festival (until mid August) enjoy selected festival concerts for free on a large screen on Salzburg’s ‘Kapitelplace’. It starts at 7.30pm and from 5pm one can also enjoy culinary delights.
The 83rd Bachfest (Oct 4 – 20, 2008) offers a few concerts for free. Check with the Salzburg Tourist Information.
If you want to experience the famous musical heritage of Austria at a reasonable price then do it like many Austrians do: standing. Get your standing room tickets at the many famous concert halls and opera houses on the day of performance or per advanced booking. Check for details on their websites.
Vienna boasts many coffeehouses. Although they are not for free, many offer free piano concerts during the day. Call the Austrian Tourist Office at 212-944-6880 and get the brochure “Concert Cafés in Vienna.”
Ever seen the “Original Hoch- und Deutschmeister”? This is the Changing of the Guard in the Inner Courtyard of the Imperial Palace (Hofburg) from April 26 - Oct 11 on Saturdays at 11 am. And of course, it is free of charge.
In Austria, many churches offer free concerts. Check with the tourist information in each city for dates and times.
The MAK in Vienna (Museum of Applied Arts) offers free entrance on Saturdays.
October 26 is a special day in Austria. It is not only our National Holiday, on this day most of Vienna's museums also have free entrance!
The Red Bull Hangar-7 is an absolute must-see in Salzburg. This hip airplane hangar is a mix of airplanes, art gallery and culinary paradise. Every day from 9am – 10pm. Entrance is free.
