Literally hundreds of fun and exciting events take place every year. Here we would like to give you some information on the goings-on that you may not find in most event listings.
Among other things, Vienna is known worldwide for its traditional Ball events. Two society events are taking the traditional Ball concept in slightly different directions. For ten years now, tickets to the Life Ball have been among the most thought after events tickets. And this in a city were locals are accustomed to the fiercest battles for tickets for performances by Domingo, Pavarotti or the Vienna Philharmonic. The Life Ball, an annual fundraiser for local and international AIDS and HIV services organizations, now rivals Vienna’s famed Opera Ball, though the two events could not be more different. The Life Ball is star-studded, colorful and definitely queer.
Many a city is jealous of Vienna’s gay and lesbian cultural festival, Wien ist Andersrum. In June this cultural event series highlights queer cabaret, theater and musical performances. Most performances are in German, though some are in English and multilingual and a variety of the music and cabaret programs transcend language barriers. Wien ist Andersrum is by now a much celebrated fixture in Vienna’s cultural program.
The end of June also marks Gay Pride in Vienna. The Rainbow Parade now attracts 150.000 visitors from far and wide, and has been one of the fastest growing pride events in recent years. The parade gets going at 3pm from the Ringturm tower on the famed Ringstrasse Boulevard, and ends with fun and festivities in front of the former Imperial Palace.
Identities - Viennas biennial filmfestival takes place in June. Be prepared for Opening & Closing night Galas, Film Awards, Q & A's with film makers and cast and other fun events like Clubbings, Cocktails, Parties, a Drag King Performance and much more.
