The Upper Austria Museums

Landesgalerie Linz
Poet Adalbert Stifter was the driving force behind the founding of this gallery in the mid-19th century. Its collections encompass contemporary and modern art from 1900 to the present with a strong emphasis on graphic art and artistic photography. Its collection of works by Alfred Kubin - the largest in the world -has spread the Landesgalerie’s reputation far beyond the borders of the Province of Upper Austria. This institution regularly stages exhibitions and programmatic series of theme exhibits featuring works ranging from classical painting and sculpture to media installations by young artists.

Schlossmuseum Linz
The permanent exhibits in Linz Castle overlooking the Old City take visitors on a great journey through the cultural history of Upper Austria from its primeval beginnings through the time of the Romans, the Middle Ages and the early modern period up to the early 20th century. The Schlossmuseum has also achieved renown and recognition for its particularly innovative interdisciplinary projects that transcend regional boundaries. This facility broke ground in early summer 2007 on a new addition to replace the South Wing that was destroyed by fire in 1800. Its completion in 2009 will make the Schlossmuseum Austria's largest general-interest museum.
