Linz is a Sportsman’s Town
In only six years, the OMV Linz Donau Marathon has developed into one of the major events in the European running scene. In 2008, 14,500 athletes showed what they’re made of and 100,000 spectators along the route provided encouragement and a festive atmosphere. There’s also an extensive programme of ancillary events: for instance, numerous exhibits downtown having to do with wellness, fitness and sport.
The competition categories are: marathon, half-marathon and quarter-marathon, relay race, inline skating, handbike half-marathon and inline skate half-marathon. The starting line is at the Voest-Autobahnbrücke (expressway bridge); the finishing line is on the Hauptplatz (main square downtown).
