Wine Tour of Austria – with VieVinum 2008 wine festival in the Imperial Castle in Vienna
To celebrate the sensational success of Austrian wines at prestigious international wine tastings and to experience the best of Austrian cuisine, we will take you to the culturally most interesting and picturesque areas of Austria. We will show you centuries old wine cellars in palaces, castles and abbeys, combining tradition with modern cellar techniques. We will explore the wines of Vienna, Klosterneuburg and Gumpoldskirchen; we will taste the wines of the Burgenland in the Castle of Halbturn, Gols, Illmitz, Rust and Donnerskirchen, the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt and Deutschkreutz. After a short stay in the World Heritage city of Graz we will taste the wines of Southern and Western Styria. On our way north to the wine growing areas on the Danube, we stop at the impressive pilgrimage Basilica of Mariazell. We will visit the Abbey of Melk, cruise on the Danube from Melk to Duernstein and taste the wines of the Abbeys of Goettweig, Krems, the Castle of Grafenegg and Feuersbrunn (with cooking lesson) before returning to Vienna to attend the VieVinum wine festival.
