Top 8 Things to Do on the Arlberg this Winter

Top 8 Things to Do on the Arlberg this Winter

The Arlberg region is a bucket list destination. Here is your hit-list of what to do there.

    1. Ski the Run of Fame

This is your grand tour of the Arlberg and it's all done on the slopes! 65 downhill runs connect the entire resort and are skiable in one seamless tour. You'll cover an incredible altitude difference of almost 60,000 feet, so prepare to sweat a little. The Run of Fame is dedicated to Arlberg's heroes of Alpine skiing and will make anyone feel like a legend on the slopes.

    2. Visit the Museum of St. Anton

The Museum of St. Anton is located on the upper floor of “Villa Trier”, which was built around 1910 as a seasonal getaway for German industrialist and entrepreneur Bernhard Trier. Erected to the design of Austrian art nouveau architect Hanns Kornberger, the exquisite mansion changed hands a number of times in the 20th century. The Commune of St. Anton and the Tourist Board acquired the architectural jewel in 1971 to preserve it for future generations. Situated among charming Alpine parklands, the Museum collects, preserves and shares the rich heritage of St. Anton.

    3. Stand on top of the mountains

While we're on the subject of high-altitude fun, a trip on the Valluga cable car is a must while in the Arlberg region. It takes you straight to the top of the Valluga mountain where you (together with a guide) get an unforgettable vista of the Austrian, Swiss, and Italian Alps. Stay for a meal at Valluga View, a panoramic restaurant where you can linger and count the peaks that tower over 9,800 feet - there is plenty to discover.

    4. Get the Lech makeover

The streets and slopes of the Arlberg are a bit of a fashion show. This season's latest ski wear and apres-ski outfits are on display not just on your fellow visitors, but in the shop windows of Lech. There, you will find everything you need to give your winter wardrobe the Arlberg upgrade. Start with Sagmeister and Strolz, two local institutions that cater to international tastes.

    5. Watch your phone become a ski gadget

Get your current location on the slopes, track your distance and speed, find nearby restaurants, and stay in the know about the weather - all with your own smartphone! The Arlberg Ski App is the ultimate tool for taking your ski vacation into the 21st century and makes exploring the slopes even more exciting.

    6. Go Heliskiing

Zürs am Arlberg is the only place in Austria that offers helisking. It's a bucket list item for many visitors to the region, and certainly one of the most memorable ways to spend a day in the Austrian Alps! Just note that because of changing weather conditions, appointments have to be made on rather short notice.

    7. Witness the White Thrill

One of Arlberg's most iconic ski events happens on the last day lifts are open in St. Anton. 555 pro and amateur skiers kick-off at the Valluga ridge and launch into a course that both involves steep downhills and uphills. Contenders have to hurry up the mountain, shouldering their skis, to cross the finish line. The White Thrill is one of the most physically challenging ski races and fun to watch on the sidelines. The next race: April 2022. We also suggest a visit of the Hall of Fame and learn more about the legends of winter sports.
