Grafenegg Music Festival

One of the largest castles in Austria, whose origins date back until the late Gothic and Renaissance periods

This is what a summer’s day in Grafenegg could look like: after a visit to the castle you can go for a walk through the English landscape garden. With the picnic basket you put together in the picnic pavilion, you walk to a shady spot under centuries-old trees, the goldfish pond or on one of the lawns in front of the castle. After so much relaxation, the senses are free for a concert visit. Continuing the tradition of the English garden which, nestled in nature, created places of enjoyment, two award-winning venues have emerged in recent years with the cloud tower and the auditorium. Like a giant sculpture, the cloud tower stretches towards the sky in front of the grandstand of the biggest open air arena in Europe. Events take place in the castle, park, cloud tower and auditorium throughout the year. The Grafenegg Advent is also a long-standing institution in the run up to Christmas in Austria. However, the annual highlight is the festival of classical music under the direction of Rudolf Buchbinder. The evening can taper out in the castle tavern or at a dinner in the state rooms of the castle. There is a barbeque on the terrace, fine Austrian cuisine awarded with a Gault Millau toque is on offer, plus top wines from the neighbouring wine regions of Wachau and Kamp.
