A foodie’s paradise, a relaxed city with a Mediterranean vibe, a cultural hot spot – this summer, make your stay in Graz exactly what you want it to be.

Come for the Food, Stay for the Atmosphere

As a foodie, you’ll feel right at home in Graz: You’ll find local cuisine using regional and seasonal products at every corner. Events like the week-long Graz Food Festival in August and regular farmers’ markets are integral parts of the city, as are exciting restaurants serving up ever new scrumptious creations.

And then, there’s the amazing city to enjoy these culinary treats in. Sitting in an outdoor space in the old city, listening to a nearby street musician, and sipping your second coffee in the sun, you’ll notice one thing about Graz: There’s no big city rush here. Instead, a relaxed way of life permeates everything here – a way of life that stays with you.

A Summer Day in Graz

Visiting Graz means to take a step back and relax. You might just get carried away with the city’s joie de vivre. If you’re looking for inspiration for your perfect day in Graz, take a look at our itinerary:

Morning

A must-do for every first-time visitor to Graz is climbing Schlossberg hill and seeing the city’s famous clocktower up close. If you don’t feel up to climbing the 260 stairs, simply take the lift (located inside the actual hill) or the Schlossbergbahn funicular. Treat yourself to a breakfast at aiola upstairs, located right behind the clocktower, with fantastic views over the city.

Take a stroll through Graz’s historic city centre, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. You can also take a guided tour, offered daily in German and English.

Afterwards, relax with a coffee on the top floor of Kastner & Öhler, the city’s oldest department store.

Lunch & Afternoon

Have lunch at Geniesserei, a restaurant located at one of the city’s famed farmers’ markets at Kaiser-Josef-Platz. All meals are freshly prepared with local, seasonal ingredients from the market itself.

Explore the farmers’ market, then make your way to the buzzing Lend district, where you will find a wide variety of eco and charity design stores, trendy eateries and outdoor markets to satisfy your every shopping need. Insider’s tip: Don’t miss the St. Andrä church in the nearby Gries district whose façade is adorned with contemporary art. Inside, more artworks await.

Another option for your afternoon in Graz is a visit to the Armoury, perhaps the city’s most impressive museum. Here, you’ll find the world's largest collection of historic arms, weapons and suits of armour, making for a spectacular experience right in the city centre.

As a young and vibrant city, Graz offers a wide selection of nightlife options. From theatre performances to night clubs, you will find your ideal way of ending the day here.
