This summer, we sent Britain's most lovable ski jumper on the ultimate Austrian mission.

Eddie the Eagle is a legend. He became a household name in 1988 as the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping in 70 years, is a British ski jumping record holder, speed skier and the world record holder in stunt jumping. Need we say more?

Austria and Eddie are both synonymous with skiing, so we thought we would challenge Eddie to step out of his comfort zone and complete our summer-inspired challenges. Guided by travel blogger and photographer Macca Sherifi of An Adventurous World, we set Eddie four unique challenges in four different Austrian destinations.

From busking for beer money in Salzburg to paddle-boarding in picturesque Zell am See-Kaprun, and from moonlighting as a chef in Graz to racing across the city and up the mountain in Innsbruck, Eddie was game.

Read on and watch the videos to see what happened when we put Eddie to the test. Was it a case of fight or flight?

Zell am See-Kaprun

Challenge: Triathski

The Zell am See-Kaprun region is an outdoor enthusiast's dream in all seasons and is situated at the edge of the National Park Hohe Tauern, the largest nature reserve in the Alps. Its impressive range of trials, tours and routes makes it the ideal arena for many Alpine adventures. In the midst of the formidable mountainous landscape lies the crystal-clear and picturesque Lake Zell, the perfect place to swim and relax after a day's hiking. The small town of Kaprun is a quick ten-minute drive away, and from here you can spot the impressive Kitzsteinhorn Glacier - the starting point of Eddie's challenge.

We challenged Eddie to a very unique triathlon - glacier, mountain, lake. Watch him speed down the Kitzsteinhorn before swapping his skis for trainers to run down the Schmittenhöhe mountain. Finally, on Lake Zell he soon discovers that paddleboarding is a lot harder than it looks...

Challenge: Fly like an Eagle, Sing like a Bird

Salzburg is an extraordinarily beautiful city and its baroque centre is surrounded by soft green mountains. It boasts a number of cosy beer gardens and the entire city looks back on a rich brewing tradition which dates back to over 600 years ago. With 19 breweries now operating in the city and surrounds, it's at the centre of the craft beer movement. Salzburg is also the city of Mozart, the famous Salzburg Festival and the ever-popular Sound of Music.

Where better than here to set Eddie a beer-and-musical themed challenge? After receiving a singing lesson at Mozart's birthplace, he tours locations from the 'Sound of Music' to busk for tips. Tasked with making enough money to buy the crew beers at the end of the day's shoot, he is definitely out of his comfort zone. Will everyone be lucky enough to sample Salzburg's famous brew?

Challenge: The Taste of an Eagle

Nestled in Austria's south, the city of Graz is renowned for its cultural and culinary delights. It's a city of contrasts, with historical treasures such as the Clock Tower and Painted House sitting perfectly alongside symbols of modernism like the Island in the Mur or the Kunsthaus Graz. Hailed the 'Capital of Delights', Austria's second largest city is teeming with superb restaurants, coffee houses, wine bars, farmers markets and countless food festivals and events throughout the year.

So, naturally, Graz is the perfect location for a food challenge. We set Eddie a blindfolded taste test to guess the ingredients of various local dishes before recreating one. He visits the local farmer's market to find his ingredients, with a language barrier to boot. Has Eddie bitten off more than he can chew?

Challenge: The Crew Versus Eddie

Innsbruck combines an incredible Alpine and urban experience. There is nowhere else in the world you can stroll through 800 years of imperial Habsburg history before heading straight up the mountains for outstanding views and outdoor recreation. One of the city's seven cable cars actually sets off from the city centre, whisking you up to the top of the Nordkette mountain in a mere 20 minutes. As Eddie well knows, Innsbruck is also famous for its ski jumping and boasts the Bergisel Olympic Ski Jump Tower. Built by star architect Zaha Hadid, this modern wonder can be seen for miles around and even enjoys a restaurant with a viewing platform on top.

With so much to see in Innsbruck, we have set Eddie a tricky challenge. Pit against the clock, he must race from one end of the city to the top of the Nordkette mountain, taking in some select highlights on the way. With time ticking and no electronic means of helping him navigate, can Eddie fly like an eagle and get there in time?

Autobiography Eddie the Eagle: My Story

The Challenger

"Eddie the Eagle" won the hearts of people around the world when he qualified for the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. Despite coming in dead last in all his events, he embodied the Olympic spirit of hard work, perseverance and participation.

Needless to say, Eddie is a welcomed guest in Austria. Mayrhofen in Tirol is one of Eddie's favourite ski resorts, not to mention his appearance on Channel 4's "The Jump" in Innsbruck and whisking down the slopes of Saalbach in an attempt to set a new world record with UK charity "Ski 4 Cancer".

What made us decide to challenge this winter superstar to a summer mission? His cheerful and optimistic nature - and the fact that he never shies away from a challenge!
