When you arrive in the Hochkönig region in SalzburgerLand, you’ll feel just a little bit different. This is a place where you will leave your everyday routine behind – without thinking about it twice. It just happens naturally. After all, the hiking and mountain biking options will keep you occupied with their fresh mountain air, blooming meadows, and spectacular mountain views.

Afterwards, you will have earned an indulgence. Known for their culinary inventiveness, Hochkönig huts and restaurants serve delicious creations made of local products, including amazing vegan creations. And then, it’s time to focus on your family – the little ones will love all the adventures the region has to offer them.

Adventure Playground (00:12)

Ben, Michal and their children took the Natrunbahn lift up to Natrun Adventure Mountain, an extensive area full of play and fun for the whole family. Their first stop was the Adventure Playground, where the kids could explore and blow off steam.

They then had lunch at Grammlergut with some of the most amazing views over the region’s mountainscape.

Or Alternatively…

Give Hochkönig’s extensive Herbal Hiking Programme a try: Visit one of 15 herb hill farms where you can try food, tea or spirits made from local herbs. Along the way, both adults and children can learn about regional products and agriculture.

Mountain Biking on Flow Trail (00:40)

Our family of Brits also had to try mountain biking, one of the area’s top activities. They took the Flow Trail, an easy trail suitable for families, which leads through picturesque landscapes and past a beautiful reservoir.

Or Alternatively…

If you’d love to do some mountain biking, but don’t think you have the necessary stamina, you’ll find a great option for you at Hochkönig: E-Biking. There are designated e-bike hotels here, as well as charging stations throughout the region.

Another unforgettable option is a sunrise hike; guided tours are available on Fridays.

Swimming in Maria Alm (00:51) & Forest Slide Park (01:03)

Ben, Michal and their children took advantage of more of the options for active holidays at Hochkönig, such as the pool at Maria Alm.

At Natrun Adventure Mountain, they visited Forest Slide Park, which is comprised of five different exciting slides – a highlight for the kids.

Or Alternatively…

Visit the Mountain Village of Animals, where you can visit petting zoos, experience “Open Barn Days” and children can take part in a wide variety of activities.

Come and see the Mountain Farm Museum at Grünegg Alm, then try Highking Gin which is distilled right there.
