    Make Innsbruck in Tirol Yours

Innsbruck is the place to go if you want to combine your city trip with experiencing unspoilt Alpine nature.

Imperial Elegance Meets Natural Beauty

When you first discover Innsbruck, you might wonder why you didn’t visit sooner. After all, this city offers a unique combination: You can stroll its streets full of imperial elegance and beautiful Baroque and Gothic architecture in the Old Town, maybe even discover one of the hip districts such as Mariahilf and St. Nikolaus where Innsbruck’s uni students like to meet for a beer or cocktail. And then, you can take a cable car from the city centre and be at 2,000 m in just 20 minutes.

Even at first sight, when you arrive, this city and its setting amidst majestic peaks is breathtaking. But, it’s never intimidating: Innsbruck’s warm, friendly atmosphere – perhaps owing to its Southern influence – and its relaxing nature experiences and cosy surrounding villages will make you feel at home in no time.

Enjoy City Life

The Innsbruck region has many facets - Innsbruck itself is a magnificent city, offering architectural marvels, varied restaurants and amazing shopping.

Explore Innsbruck’s picturesque old city, and make your way to the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), the city’s most famous landmark. Stroll along the bustling Maria Theresien Street and stop off at Das Schindler, a Gault Millau-awarded restaurant, for a delicious meal.

If you’re in the mood, explore Innsbruck’s young, hip areas Mariahilf, St. Nikolaus and Wilten square with their distinctive local shops, vegan restaurants and unique bars such as Kater Noster, John Montagu or M+M Bar. Or visit an unusual museum such as the Grassmayr Bell Foundry or the Audioversum, Innsbruck's museum of sound.

Fancy some imperial splendour? Ambras Castle with its magnificent gardens, small waterfalls and free-range peacocks (!) takes you back to the Renaissance period.

Experience Natural Wonders

Innsbruck's surrounding mountains and lovely villages make for truly memorable experiences in nature.

Hop on the Nordkettenbahn – a cable car designed by star architect Zaha Hadid – and get off on the Nordkette mountain range at nearly 2000 m 20 minutes later. Here you’ll find lunch with a view at Seegrube restaurant, Austria’s biggest nature park, Karwendel, and Europe’s highest Alpine Zoo.

The hiking options here and all around Innsbruck are many and varied; with the Innsbruck Trek programme, you can take a different guided hike each day, spending the night comfortably in a hotel. Want to take it a bit slower? At Nordkette cable car, you can “hire” a ready-packed backpack filled with a delicious picnic and take it to one of the many parks and gardens of Innsbruck or the surrounding mountains.

Tip: Innsbruck as a Holiday Hub

A great way to experience all the region has to offer is to make Innsbruck your Tirol “holiday hub” and take day trips in the surrounding area.

Looking to cool down? Go for a swim in one of the region’s many lakes and relax like a local. Lake Lans and Lake Natters are both easily accessible by tram from the city centre. Rock climbing enthusiasts will enjoy the climbing garden in the village of Igls or at the Innsbruck indoor climbing centre.

You can venture even further and visit the Stubai Glacier with its hiking routes and beautiful ice caves, or explore 007 ELEMENTS, a James Bond-themed interactive museum in Sölden.

Innsbruck and its surrounding region will make sure that your holiday is what you want it to be – whether you’re looking for urban culture, relaxing nature, or an ideal combination of both.
