Active Holidays, Amazing Experiences

When you arrive in Wildschönau in Tirol, time seems to stand still. The Alpine pastures seem to be a little greener, the flowers a little more colourful, and the air a little bit fresher than elsewhere. This is no coincidence: Wildschönau prides itself on its pristine nature, its family-run hotels and restaurants, and its traditions.

At the same time, Wildschönau is the ideal playground for active visitors. Here, you’ll find hiking trails for every level, from leisurely walks through the valley to summits at over 2,000 metres. Take advantage of a guided walk led by a local, enjoy stunning vistas, and enjoy the unique character of Wildschönau in Tirol.

Two Brits in Wildschönau in Tirol: In Search of the Perfect Selfie

Sunrise Hiking (00:07)

Sam and Sam got an early start – but with good reason: Some of the most beautiful moments can be experienced during a sunrise hike. Our Brits visited Horler Stiegl chapel, with stunning views of Holzalm around 5am.

Or Alternatively…

If you’d like to do an early morning walk, but are not quite brave enough to set out on your own, take advantage of the guided sunrise hike to Kragenjoch mountain on Tuesdays (free of charge with the Wildschönau Card). A unique way of experiencing Wildschönau and its surroundings, the area’s guided hike programme offers a wide variety of options.

Guided E-Mountainbike Tour (00:18)

Sam and Sam also took a guided e-mountainbike tour. An absolute must-see on their route was the village of Thierbach, consisting of only a church, three restaurants, a few farmhouses and a school with a total of 12 pupils.

Or Alternatively…

Spend more time in Thierbach, a unique gem of a village. Serving as a spectacular backdrop for the village, Gratlspitz mountain offers great hiking.

Or visit Kundl Gorge, an unmissable natural wonder. Steep cliffs, wild, white water, and a 3.5-kilometre gorge walk make for an unforgettable outing.

Cheese Trail (00:41) & Brass Band Concert (01:15)

At the Wildschönau dairies, Sam and Sam got to taste the freshest cheese they ever had – and on their way back to their hotel, they were surprised by a brass band performance on the streets of Wildschönau. An age-old Alpine tradition, these performances take place four times a week here.

Or Alternatively…

Fresh cheese is available at a variety of different traditional huts in the area, each with their own dairy. Another must-try local specialty is Krautinger schnaps, which is made of white beets.

Paragliding (01:12)

Not ones to shirk a challenge, Sam and Sam decided to try their hand at paragliding – and loved it. With perfect paragliding conditions due to its wind-protected location, Wildschönau paragliding school near the Markbachjoch cable car offers paragliding courses and tandem flights.

Or Alternatively…

Looking to conquer your fear of heights a different way? Visit the Wildschönau High Rope Course high up in the treetops, featuring platforms at heights of 17-21 metres and great views over the valley.
