The place to go after a day of hiking. Enjoy spicy spreads on home-baked bread and sweet nutty pastries with a glass of wine.
The 30-kilometre Styrian Wine Route in the south of Austria traverses the province’s biggest wine-growing region. Along the way, you’ll encounter bold and fruity wines, beautiful vineyards along winding roads, and friendly locals waiting to raise a glass with you. The route connects the small towns of Straß in Steiermark and Oberhaag, making its way through the lovely communities of Ehrenhausen, Arnfels, and Leutschach. Located close to the Slovenian border, the Wine Route can be easily reached from Graz in 45 minutes.
Along the route, the most common kind of restaurant is the so-called Buschenschank. Usually located on the grounds of the vineyard, a Buschenschank serves local wine as well as regional, homemade snacks or meals. It’s the most authentic and immediate way to experience Austria’s wine country.
