The Lobau in the east of Vienna is part of the original, wild and natural beauty of the Donau-Auen National Park. Danube channels, ponds, open meadows and dense forests, rare flowers, trees, fish, insects and birds dominate this "jungle" of Vienna. Set off on your Lobau expedition with free guided tours on foot or by bike. And from May until October, you can take the National Park boat right from the Old Town in the city center into the jungle!
Surrounded by gardens, lawns, restaurants with waterside terraces, promenades and bike paths, the Old Danube attracts swimmers, sailors, rowers and windsurfers in summer, and skaters in winter. Choose from three sailing and surfing schools, nine boat rentals and four lidos. Perhaps spend an afternoon at Gänsehäufel, where two kilometres of beach, swimming pools, playgrounds and cafés promise relaxing hours.
With around 3 million visitors, the annual Danube Island Festival is Europe's largest open air party. But on top of these 3 days in June, there is always something to do on the Danube Island: 42 kilometres of sand, swimming bays, playgrounds, running and skating tracks, boats, bicycles and surfboards to hire, bars, cafés and restaurants all belong to the recreational paradise of the Viennese.
Glide across the Danube with an excursion ship of the DDSG Blue Danube, race down the Danube Canal with the Twin City Liner, or enjoy a romantic boat picnic on the Old Danube. Experience Vienna by ship and boat.
