Skiing and snowboarding on the crowd-free slopes of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area mean time and space to enjoy the beauty of the Kitzbüheler mountains and the rustic huts that dot the well-groomed slopes. High atop Schatzberg mountain, stunning views look over on the valleys of Wildschönau and Alpbachtal. A total of 45 lifts transport skiers and boarders swiftly and comfortably.

As for more insider tips, the Schönangeralm and the village of Thierbach are hidden gems of traditional architecture and farm life. Taste local specialties like Wildschönauer Krautinger Schnapps and Alpbachtal haymilk cheese. And don’t forget to ask Johann about his Guinness World records…

5 Things Not to Miss

5 Things Not to Miss

1. Coast at speed
The new alpine Lauser Sauser coaster zooms from the Wiedersbergerhorn gondola top station at up to 42 km per hour. The two seater sledges whizz over two jumps and through two 360° degree twists. Racers, start your engines.

2. Tobogganing
On a scenic, snowy toboggan from the mountain top directly down to pretty Niederau, the view is as memorable as the thrill. A chairlift delivers riders to the Lanerköpfl start and the smooth groomed track winds for a fantastic 6km through unforgettable alpine scenery.

3. Try the best Kaiserschmarrn in the valley in the cosy hut Zottahof in Alpbach
A recipe handed down from generation to generation will not disappoint. Stopping at this weathered and beautiful old wooden house for a traditional omelette pancake dish of Kaiserschmarrn is a must.

4. Ski to a destination frying pan
Yes, the biggest frying pan on the mountain also makes the most delicious cheesy noodles. The Böglalm Hut can be reached on skis or on foot, so making it your premier lunch destination for tasty Alpbacher Kasspazln is both easy and rewarding.

5. Enjoy a tasty view
From the top station of the Schatzbergbahn you're only a few steps away from the pretty Schatzberg Alm, where the panorama competes for popularity with their homemade cakes. Another sight to behold is the rustic Gipföhit, located right next to the connection lift to Inner Alpbach, famous for their delicious Wildschönau Brezen soup and a view to boot.
