Lakes in Tirol

The "Heart of the Alps" where some 10,000 crystalclear springs bubble to the surface offers a wonderful combination of majestic mountains and glittering lakes which are up to 80°F warm.

Lake Achensee

A natural lake created by glaciers with a surface area of 719 ha. Enjoy swimming, surfing, sailing, rowing, diving, and fishing on Lake Achensee. There are two areas dedicated to swimming - the North and the Schwarzenau. Here you will find kiosks, camping grounds with restaurants, pedal boat rental and accommodations of all kinds. Expect an average water temperature of 66°F.

Durlassboden Reservoir

There is plenty of summer fun to be had at the Durlassboden Reservoir, with a swimming area and deck chairs at the Gerlos Surfing & Sailing School pier, romantic lawns for sunbathing (approx 10min walk along the shore), a children’s playground and BBQ site. Water temperatures reach 70°F from June to August and a gravel road leads down to the pier, also accessible by wheelchair. Make the most of the row and pedal boat, as well as sailboat and surfboard rental, plus a great selection of restaurants.

Lake Going

The 3.7 acres Lake Going offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities. Fun is guaranteed sliding down the longest open-air water slide in Tirol (100m), plus there are tunnels and crossings, a water park with pirate ship, sand pits and plenty more play facilities. The revamped shores and new walking and cycle paths blend perfectly with the beautiful surroundings. The lake, which is fed by springs from the Wilder Kaiser Mountain Range, was named Tirol’s most beautiful natural swimming lake by an international jury. In summer, families can enjoy 75°F warm water and the beach that has a separate area for children and non-swimmers.

Lake Haldensee

Lake Haldensee is one of the lakes in the Tannheimer Tal, well-known for its crystal-clear and clean waters. On the western shore you'll find a leisure center with a solar-heated outdoor swimming pool, beginners’ pool, giant water slide and sunbathing lawn. On the eastern shores, in Haller, you'll will find a natural beach, offering a more relaxed and private atmosphere. There are rowing and pedal boat rentals at the beach-side café.

Lake Natterer See

There are no end of facilities offered at the Natterer See Holiday Resort, including a sunbathing lawn, non-swimmer area, children’s bathing cove, a 66m long giant water slide, boat rental (Barracuda speedboats, mini sailing boats and electric bumper boats), water toys, 3 children’s playgrounds, a teepee camp, satellite TV room, billiard, video games, open-air chess, water polo, water volleyball, water trampoline, a “Windglider”, canoe rental, beach volleyball, street ball, mountain bike rental, table tennis, archery range, apartments, a guesthouse, first rate camping grounds, a restaurant with lakeside terrace, a mini-market and kindergarten! What's more, the average water temperature in summer is 77°F.

Lake Plansee

Lake Plansee is Tirol’s second largest lake and also one of its cleanest, with grade A quality water. It offers a swimming area, camping grounds, Hotel Forelle, Hotel Seespitz and boat rental. The average water temperature lies around 70°F.

Lake Thiersee

This is one of the cleanest lakes in Austria and, with water temperatures reaching 75°F, the Thiersee is also one of Tirol’s warmest. Swimming areas, a beach café, kiosk, Hotel Charlotte, camping grounds, boat rental, beach volleyball, table tennis, a diving tower and Aqua-Jump await.

Lake Reintal

Lake Reintal is the largest of the Alpbachtal lakes and is considered one of Tirol’s warmest swimming lakes with temperatures around 77°F. There are well-maintained lawns, restaurants, a children’s playground, boat rental and camping facilities. Plus there is a lovely walking path that leads around the lake (approx. 1 hour).
