“The moment we drove into Hallstatt, I felt like we entered a dream. The mountains jut out from the water and there are just these incredible reflections. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been!”Kara Mercer © Kara Mercer Kara Mercer, Photographer
Hallstatt is undeniably beautiful. But there’s more to the village than the iconic view you get of the church steeple, reflected in Lake Hallstatt. The region is known for highly developed civilisation and trade that reach back as far as 5000 BCE. Salt was Hallstatt’s “white gold” and afforded the locals a picturesque town with several churches and a characteristic Alpine architecture style.
Today, Hallstatt is the most photographed place in Austria and attracts visitors from all over the world. Get up early for the most peaceful photo ops and venture out beyond the classic landscapes. There are interesting shots waiting for you on a boat tour of the lake itself! Whether it’s on one of the ferry boats or a private charter, you’ll be treated to spectacular views.
