Construction began in 1736 for Schloss Leopoldskron to become the family residence of Salzburg’s Prince Archbishop, Leopold Anton Freiherr von Firmian. In addition to its arch-bishopal history, the founders of the Salzburg Festival – the famous director Max Reinhart and his contemporaries - convened here when they created the concept for the world-renowned annual event.
