Austria. Unique Like You
It's one thing to say a country is worth exploring -- it's another to show how.
This April the Austrian National Tourist Office launches its ambitious new Online and Social Media campaign, featuring 250 authentic activities, meals, landmarks and assorted tucked-away secrets to experience in Austria. From the best rooftop terrace cafe in Salzburg to the finest foodie mecca in Graz, on www.unique.austria.info the discerning traveller gets equipped with a well-researched and wanderlust-inspiring collection of recommendations -- a roadmap, essentially, for having an unforgettable time in Austria.
What sets this campaign apart from others is its breadth and specificity -- imagine an army of tour guides, all within arm's reach. "It provides guidance to potential travellers and offers examples of authentic, hands-on experiences that go beyond the ordinary,” says Astrid Mulholland-Licht, Director of the Austrian National Tourist Office, Australia / New Zealand. Indeed, "hands-on" is just what we mean:
- Viennese confectioners have argued for centuries over whether apple strudel filling should include crumbs and raisins. Decide for yourself as you bake your own, under the tutelage of experts at Café Residenz, the former bakery to the royal family at Schönbrunn Palace.
- A dining experience of a different kind awaits you in Europe’s oldest restaurant paired with traditionally influenced contemporary music and a delicious three-course-dinner. St. Peter Stiftskeller – the restaurant, at the very heart of Salzburg’s old town, is one of those rare places, where history and Zeitgeist meet.
- Hidden away near Krems is Europe's first biodynamic wine estate, the Nikolaihof Wachau - a legend for its organic, Robert Parker - endorsed Grüner Veltliner, as well as its kitchen. On a warm summer night, indulge in the finest cool Grüners and a spectacular meal underneath a stately, century-old Kaiser Lime tree.
- With its famed vineyards, villages and local delicacies, the Lake Neusiedl World Cultural Heritage Site and National Park enchants visitors from around the world - yet never feels crowded. Bicycle paths glide through the stunning, sun-drenched plains of salt lakes, wetlands and pastures, as a menagerie of wild horses, white donkeys, cranes and more than 300 indigenous birds fills out the scene.
