Kunsthaus Graz

The building Kunsthaus Graz, designed by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, has an organic shape with a skin made of iridescent blue acrylic panels. One of the most unusual museums you'll ever visit. It has become an attraction for art lovers and the culturally minded from all over the world.

At night, the building of the Kunsthaus Graz glows by way of a computerized lighting system beneath the transparent skin. With large, tube like "nozzles" for windows that stick out from the curved roof, the structure undeniably reminds of an outer-space creature that has landed in the middle of Graz and its historic town center. The London architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, the designers of this project, created an impressive synthesis, which unites the historical setting of this urban district along the Mur.

The underground car park offers space for 146 vehicles. A multifunctional venue for exhibitions, events, presentations of contemporary art, photography and new media, the building’s interior is meant to inspire its curators as a black box of hidden tricks, while its outer façade can be changed electronically. The Kunsthaus Graz meets the most up-to-date requirements for museums on the international loan circuit in terms of funcitonality and technicality. Its 11,100m² of usable space provides everything its managers need to participate in the global exhibition business on the highest level. An innovative and cost-effective air-conditioning system meets all the demands of the most important art owners.
