Lower Austria's great diversity

It's hard to find such widely varied landscapes within such a small area anywhere in the world, but in Lower Austria every border opens up a new realm. The jagged gorges of the Austrian Grand Canyon in the Ötscher region and the unspoilt wetlands along the Danube, for instance. Gentle sunny slopes dotted with vineyards throughout the wine country as well as dark moorlands and mystical places. Pine and oak forests, alpine pastures and bright poppy fields, quiet bathing lakes surrounded by dense forests and rushing mountain streams - the choice is yours!

Golf and city break in one

With almost 50 golf courses, Lower Austria has more than any other Austrian province. The European Tour visits Austria with the annual Austrian Open held at the Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, a 36-hole facility with its own hotel near Vienna. It is one of more than 20 courses that are to be found around the capital. Others include Schloss Ebreichsdorf and the Colony Club Gutenhof.

Lower Austria's golf courses not only give this province the distinction of having the most greens of all Austrian regions, but also offer the discerning golfer a range of options. The varied scenery ensures there are fairways to suit every taste and expectation, wether golfers choose to play among the idyllic, heavily wooded hills of the Waldviertel, the lush vineyards of Wachau, or the hilly Mostviertel - the opportunities are almost endless.

The gourmet province

Lower Austria has more to offer than just splendid golf courses, and is known as the "gourmet province" for good reason. A meal at one of the many gourmet restaurants and traditional inns serving regional delicacies, superb wines and outstanding beers is the perfect way to cap a superb day on the greens.
