A superb area for walking, the unspoilt valley of
Niederau-Oberau-Auffach offers miles of marked trails through lovely rolling hills and
free use of all lifts and walkers' buses. Wildschönau means 'wild and beautiful' and this is certainly one of the most glorious valleys in
Tirol, with a special rural character, many rustic mountain alms, and the spectacular Kundl Gorge to explore at the end of the valley. Picturesque Niederau houses a pretty church, friendly cafés and the central Markbachjoch gondola. Further into the valley, fairytale Oberau comprises a magnificent church, a handful of shops and some fine old buildings. Beyond Oberau lies the
quaint village of Auffach with direct access to the Schatzberg gondola. Wherever you stay, a regular bus serves the whole valley, enabling you to make the most of the region.
Steeped in tradition, the small and friendly
Gasthof Weissbacher dates back over 200 years and was the very first Gasthof in Auffach. You are assured of a warm welcome by mother and daughter team Susanna and Eva who provide
good food and a lovely traditional atmosphere, in a great location right in the centre of the village close to walking trails. After a day out and abot, kick back and absorb the lovely views from the popular sun terrace café.
