The Steirereck Inn
Our recommendations

On the Pogusch, where foxes and rabbits used to wave goodnight to each other before retiring, nowadays celebrities and enjoyment-seeking guests from far and near come to enjoy whatever is on the agenda.

A sister restaurant to famed Steirereck in Vienna, this is a must stop.

Turnau

The Reitbauer family has become a legend in Austria, most of all through their noble restaurant in the national capital, Steirereck, but also because they created a culinary wonderland in their homeland of Styria which seeks its parallel in vain. Their motto might run: everything is simple here; simply perfect. On the outside, it appears to be a rustic mountain hut, and even the interior decoration (apart from the lovely restrooms) tries hard to preserve that impression. Yet in fact this is a precision-run, well-oiled operation in which everything simply clicks. A primeval atmosphere, yes, but elevated regional cuisine at its finest, yes indeed. This apparent contradiction is what makes Steirereck on the Pogusch so popular. It goes without saying, that they deploy the best that the nearby countryside can produce, e.g. fresh fish from the Turnauer Pond, Styrian capon (“best chicken on earth”), wild game from the nearby forests, meat from their own farm. All around this inn, a complex infrastructure has been built up over the years, including romantic guest rooms in nearby farmhouses which are available to guests who wish to overnight. And for those who seek a truly special experience, you can fly in from Bad Vöslau, south of Vienna, via helicopter, just in time for your meal at Steirereck.
