Before Christmas, in Innsbruck city and mountain melt into one. This fascinating urban-alpine atmosphere is also highly appreciated by the visitors of Innsbruck’s five Christmas markets – each of them proud of their very particular character.

Innsbruck’s Altstadt Christmas Market counts among the most beautiful and romantic locations in the entire Alpine region. The historical Old Town then becomes the perfect spot to stroll and enjoy the festive sights, or for a get-together with friends over mulled wine. Also Maria Theresien Street, Innsbruck’s main boulevard, will turn into a magical ‘Christmas zone’ lined by glittering crystal trees which festively illuminate the seasonally adorned market stalls. Just a few steps away a little Yuletide paradise awaits children at the Innsbruck Marktplatz by the Inn River. Here revellers big and small have a merry time under the 15-m high Swarovski Christmas tree, a dazzling marvel adorned with thousands of glittering crystals, while the animals of a petting zoo and in a merry-go-round will make children’s eyes glisten.

Located just above town at Hungerburg, is the Panorama Christkindlmarkt, another popular pre-festive meeting point. Besides being highly romantic it offers exceptional views over the city of Innsbruck as the crisp winter air mingles with the delicious aromas of Advent. To explore the most recent addition to the various Christmas markets in town we recommend you head to the ‘artsy’ stalls on Wiltener Platzl, a mere five minute stroll away from Maria Theresien Street.
