Salzburg's Schrannenmarkt

In existence since 1906, the Schrannenmarkt has always been the weekly market for the people living in and around the city of Salzburg. Early bird gets the worm! Join the spectacle from 5 am on and watch the market being set up in front of the magnificent St. Andrä Church.

Salzburg

On Thursday mornings, when the sun rises  over Salzburg, start your day with breakfast at the Schrannen market. Smell the fresh herbs, see the colorful variety of local fruits and vegetables, and sample exclusive delicacies from one of the 190 local farmers. A real treat for all five senses. The Schrannen market is so famous and sought after, that most of the farmers you will find here have reserved their booths ten years in advance.

Here, the selling of the many healthy and organic foods is not a solely current trend but has always been around. Experience Salzburg by tasting the traditional local pastry “Bauernkrapfen,” or try a famous Austrian cheese together with some fresh, warm, crispy bread. Early birds can watch the setting up of the market from 5 am on, a morning that invigorates one to a full day of exploring the city.
