High above the rooftops and valleys, visitors to Austria have the most spectacular start to the year. We let you in on the best New Year's celebrations in Austria's cities and on the mountain tops.
Acoustic New Year's Fireworks in Lech Zürs am Arlberg

Lech Zürs am Arlberg traditionally greets the New Year with a spectacular acoustic firework display - uniquely choreographed firework effects in synch with the music. Recent years have been dedicated to themes such as Falco (2013), ABBA (2012), Swinging New Year (2011), A Tribute to Michael Jackon (2010), the James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace" (2009) and the Football World Cup (2008). This hugely successful event takes place on the Edelweissplatz Zürs on New Year's Day at 10 p.m.

New Year's Concerts in Salzburg

There are numerous classical concerts in Salzburg on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Whether they be in the old residence, or the state rooms of Salzburg Fortress, these concerts are an unparalleled delight for music and glitz lovers alike. Salzburg Highlights offer packages that combine concerts with a gala dinner, for example, and midnight fireworks on the terrace of the Salzburg Fortress, accompanied by a glass of champagne and a Waltz.

New Year's Eve on the Hohe Salve Mountain in Tirol

The Hohe Salve Mountain in Tirol's Kitzbüheler Alpen provides the perfect atmosphere for old and young to celebrate New Year's Eve in Hopfgarten. From 7 p.m. the cable car takes you up the mountain and the gondola lift continues running until 2 a.m. The trip costs €12 return, including a glass of bubbly or punch. You can opt to take a speedy skidoo ride between the two inns Salvenalm and Tennerstadl, and look forward to fantastic fireworks just after midnight.

Celebrate looking out over Vienna

Enjoy culinary delights on three levels at the Danube Tower this New Year's Eve with views over the whole of Vienna. From a gala menu to a buffet option or champagne package, the iconic tower caters for all tastes and budgets.

New Year's Eve on Innsbruck's Patscherkofel Mountain

Celebrate on the Patscherkofel, the landmark mountain of Innsbruck. Be whisked by cable car to an altitude of 1960m and, after a cocktail, savour a 4-course menu in the mountain restaurant with Innsbruck's fireworks dazzling below.

Fondue Celebrations on the Zugspitze

Welcome the new by celebrating with old traditions high up on the Zugspitze in Tirol. The Tiroler Zugspitzbahn takes you up to the peak where you are greeted with an aperitif. Enjoy a delicious 3-course fondue meal before toasting the New Year with a midnight drink and fireworks in the valley below. Musical entertainment is provided throughout.
