Your Winter in Carinthia
The sunny side of the Alps

Skiing, snow fun for the kids and 100 sunshine hours in winter make Carinthia a dream destination for all ages.

Welcome to the sunny side of the Alps! If you're heading to Carinthia for your winter holiday, good weather is almost guaranteed. After all, Austria's southernmost province has more sunshine hours in winter than any other Austrian ski destination (more than 100 to be precise!).

Carinthia's 24 ski resorts score with 800 km of slopes for both beginners and experienced skiers (and easy access to more in East Tirol) as well as tons of activities away from the pistes. Bringing the kids? You'll feel straight at home as the province is known to be particularly family-friendly, with mascots such as Heidi and life-size animals accompanying children taking their first turns. And if you just want to relax and unwind, that's ok too - Carinthia is a top wellness destination!

Spend your days skiing, skating or going for a swim in a heated outdoor pool, then indulge in the local Slow Food cuisine - that's what a winter holiday in Carinthia looks like!

Carinthia is an excellent destination for a family winter holiday. The Heidi Alm Bergresort in Falkert is an insider tip for travellers arriving with kids in tow. The popular figures from the children’s series of the same name promise a playful approach to learning in the snow. Children’s hotels, a children’s ski school, the Heidi Alm ski park, everything was designed with the little ones in mind here. The Katschberg region scores with the Katschi's Children's World, a kids slope with life-size animals. The Nocky Flitzer, a spectacular alpine roller coaster, is open all-year-round, including in winter.

The Kärntner Skipass includes 31 ski resorts in Carinthia and East Tirol, 845 km of slopes, 262 lifts and 204 days of skiing. It is available for 1.5 days and up to a whole season and can be bought at ticket offices in each of the ski resorts or online.

Culinary delights

Classic hut food or traditional local cuisine: In Carinthia, foodies get to enjoy the best of both worlds. The area is known for its down-to-earth dishes, think Kärntner Nudeln (Carinthian pasta pockets) or Reindling (yeast dough cake), but equally as a Slow Food region.

Insider's Tip

Nockberge Trail

Connecting the five ski resorts of Katschberg, Innerkrems, Turrach, Falkert, and Bad Kleinkirchheim/St. Oswald, the Nockberge Trail is suitable for ski tourers who are in good shape, but do not want to tackle high alpine sections. The 5 daily stages take up to 6 hours to complete each. Some of the steeper sections can be avoided by taking lifts and cable cars.

Luggage and shuttle services are available along the trail. You’ll sleep in top-notch wellness hotels instead of dormitories and enjoy excellent Alpine-Adriatic cuisine.
