Sustainability Projects in the Arlberg Region

    Lech Zürs

    Energy from Nature

Biomass heating plants in Lech, Zug, Oberlech and Zürs supply almost 100 percent of all households and businesses with comfortable heat.

Lech: Blue Fleet & Green Garage

More and more locals and guests stopped using their own cars to get around. Instead they use the free ski bus in winter or the hiking bus in summer. The Green Garage is the first fully electrified garage with space and charging stations for 23 electric cars.

    Traffic-free Oberlech

Since 1997, Oberlech has been traffic-free from December to April. Guests arrive by mountain railroad, hotel supplies are delivered via a tunnel system, and goods are transported by electric cars - a concept unique in Europe.

    St. Anton am Arlberg

    Chemical-free artificial snow

The artificial snow that is blown onto the slopes in St. Anton only consists of water, which has been treated to drink water quality, and air.

    The Kartell Lake

Since 2006, St. Anton am Arlberg has been self-sufficient in terms of electricity supply. The storage lake for the Kartell power plant holds around 8 Mio m3 water and supplies around 33 Mio kw/h of electricity annually. In addition, St. Anton operates a biomass heating plant with wood chips, designed for up to 80 residential units. Also a solar system is operated there, for preparation of hot water.

    "KLAR!" model region

In Spring 2021, St. Anton am Arlberg officially became a "KLAR!" model region. KLAR stands for climate change adaptation model regions. The common goal is to prepare for climate change, minimize the negative consequences by means of adaptation measures and to use future opportunities.
