Introduction
Austria's farmers make a vital contribution to the country's culinary diversity. They bring a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, herbs and grains — often organically grown — to the country's farmers' markets and restaurant menus, or sell their produce directly from the farm. Around 30,000 agricultural businesses market their products this way. At a farmers' market, several producers sell side by side; a farm shop sits directly on the holding, while a produce shop may bring together goods from several farms. It's a chance to buy regional products and seasonal specialities, try something new and find out who is behind them, how they are made and what is in season.
