A Baroque wine experience

Domäne Wachau is located in one of the world’s most stunning vineyard landscapes just below the Dürnstein castle ruins where Richard the Lionhearted was once held captive. The friendly, knowledgeable staff guides you through wine tastings from the valley’s best vineyards in their stunning tasting room, open 7 days a week.

Certain things become more refined with age, and when it comes to the Austrian tradition of winemaking and Domäne Wachau, this couldn’t be truer. Along the banks of the Danube River in the Wachau Valley, the 300-year old Domäne Wachau winery and Dürnstein Castle create an idyllic spectacle.

Sun-drenched green hills lined with grapevines are in perfect harmony with the Baroque architecture of the region’s vineyards. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, this location is more than just a pretty place: in Wine Enthusiast’s “Best of 2012”, Domäne Wachau was recognized for four wines from the vineyard represented by Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.

The Baroque Cellar at Dürnstein Castle displays newly restored frescoes, reliefs, and murals that celebrate the famous wines of the Wachau in both playful and noble portrayals. The dynamic team at the wine shop leads visitors through wine tastings from the valley’s best vineyards, and 7 days a week, the knowledgeable staff gives guided tours that reveal the rich history and flourishing modern wine culture of the region.
